Feature Documentary Film: Dust to Dust

Yuima Nakazato graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, in 2008, and founded his own fashion label, YUIMA NAKAZATO, in 2009. In July 2010, he became only the second Japanese designer after Hanae Mori to be selected as an official guest designer for the Paris Haute Couture Collection, where he has since continued to present his work.

Having long explored the relationship between humans and clothing, Nakazato embarked on a journey to Kenya with film director Kōsai Sekine to answer a personal question: What is the final destination of fashion? What they encountered was a harrowing reality—a mountain of discarded garments spontaneously combusting, emitting thick smoke into the sky. Devastated by the sight of Africa being forced to accept clothing waste from around the world, Nakazato returned to Japan determined to reimagine fashion with an unyielding spirit of innovation.

Teaming up with cutting-edge companies such as EPSON and Spiber, Nakazato boldly integrates advanced technologies and materials into his designs. Facing repeated challenges and setbacks, he continues his pursuit—culminating in his return to Paris Fashion Week with a vision for the future of sustainable fashion.

長編ドキュメンタリー映画『燃えるドレスを紡いで』

中里唯馬は2008年にベルギー・アントワープ王立芸術アカデミーを卒業し、2009年に「YUIMA NAKAZATO」を設立。翌年7月、日本人では森英恵以来の2人目となるパリ・オートクチュール・コレクションの公式ゲストデザイナーに選ばれ、継続的にパリで作品を発表しているデザイナーである。
人間と衣服の関係性に長年向き合ってきた中里は、「衣服の最終到達点が見たい」と映画監督の関根光才と共にアフリカ・ケニアに渡り、その現状を取材。そこで目にしたものは煙をあげて自然発火する、圧倒的な質量のゴミの山だった。
アフリカが世界中から衣類をゴミとして押し付けられた現実を目にし、打ちのめされた中里は、帰国後、不屈のチャレンジ精神で、未来へ繋がるデザインのあり方を模索する。EPSONやSPIBERといった企業の技術や素材を革新的なアイディアで起用し、度々襲いかかるトラブルと壁を乗り越えながら、中里はパリコレに挑む。

2024年3月16日より、全国順次公開。
