Trace

2024

"Trace" (2024) is a work that captures the natural beauty of the waterscape and rock formations of Okutsu Gorge, a scenic location, and reinterprets their shapes. The exhibition space is filled with the sounds of mountain and marine creatures. Various types of sound-emitting devices, such as horn speakers and vibration speakers, are placed along the walkway stretching from the entrance of the venue toward the artwork. When listening closely, the sounds of mountain creatures can be heard from the upstream side of Okutsu Gorge (Yoshii River), while the sounds of marine creatures can be heard from the downstream side. Though these landscapes are unseen, they exist beyond the flow of the water. This work invites visitors to imagine a landscape where the mountains and the sea are connected as one.
