From August 19 (Thu) to August 29 (Sun), 2021, The Chain Museum will present Jukan Tateisi Solo Exhibition: To The Fog at KITTE. This exhibition is the fifth installment of REAL by ArtSticker, The Chain Museum’s independently curated series. We warmly invite you to experience the show.

The exhibition features the Japan premiere of To The Fog (2020), a video work by Jukan Tateisi, selected for New Contemporaries 2021.
New Contemporaries Bloomberg is a prestigious platform that annually selects around 30 emerging artists trained in the UK (expanded to 75 artists this year due to pandemic-related adjustments), providing them with opportunities for exhibitions and workshops. With a 70-year history, it has launched the careers of major figures such as David Hockney, Damien Hirst, and Haroon Mirza.

Artist Statement

To The Fog is a memorial piece in response to a personal tragedy the artist experienced in spring 2020. Unable to visit, to say goodbye, or even to witness the burning body—it felt as though the person had simply vanished. In the days that followed, it was as if space and time themselves lost direction, like being lost in a thick fog. This work casts thoughts—woven between public and private, stillness and motion, the real and the imagined—toward a land beyond the fog, a place that can no longer be returned to.

In addition to the video installation, the exhibition features a new lightbox piece (2021) created using the artist’s ongoing “SNS × AI” method, developed since 2017.

70年の歴史があり、過去にデヴィッド・ホックニーやダミアン・ハースト、ハルーン・ミルザなど多くの重要な作家を輩出している。

アーティスト・ステイトメント

「To The Fog」は、2020年春に作家身辺で起きた悲劇へのメモリアル作品である。
見舞いにもいけず、看取ることもできず、燃え上がる肉体を見送ることもできず。
ある日とつぜん行方不明になったような感覚で日々を過ごすように、われわれは空間と時間の方向を五里霧中のように見失っているのではないか。
霧の向こうにある、戻れなくなった地に向かって、公/私、静/動、実/虚が織り交ざる想いを投げかける。
会場では、映像インスタレーションに加え、2017年より取り組む「SNS×人口知能」手法を用いたライトボックス作品（2021）をあわせて発表する。
