Gravitation is a video installation that inserts a “sliver of space” into our contemporary world saturated with ultra-high-resolution media. It was originally created by an instant collective of three artists—Jukan Tateisi, Shoei Matsuda, and Takeshi Yasuraa—who were all born in the 1980s. Since 2024, the project has continued as a collaboration between Tateisi and Yasura.

The work captures a fleeting, everyday moment—a split-second accident in which a teacup and saucer fall—and stretches it to its temporal limits, continuously exploring how such events are transformed in the digital realm. A saucer, once dropped by someone, shatters slowly and scatters into the air. Its fragments float elegantly in virtual space, and each pixel on the screen resembles a distant star shimmering in the universe.

Another defining feature of the work is its custom-built, ultra-low-resolution distributed LED display system. In an era where 8K resolution has become standard, this deliberate reduction of pixel density serves to prompt a return to physical, embodied creativity—reminding us of the expressive possibilities that lie beyond technological precision.

「Gravitation」は、超高解像度メディアがあふれる現代に対して「隙間」を差し込む映像インスタレーション作品である。1980年代生まれの同世代である立石従寛、松田将英、保良雄ら三人によるインスタント・コレクティブとして制作された。2024年以降は立石従寛と保良雄による二人で制作を継続している。

日常における偶発的な出コンマ１秒の出来事——ティーカップとソーサーの落下——を切り取り、極限まで引き伸ばし、デジタル世界で変容していく様子を継続して探求している。誰かの落としてしまったソーサーはゆっくりと割れて、宙に飛び散っていく。その破片は仮想空間内を優雅に浮遊し、モニター上の一つひとつのピクセルは、まるで宇宙に輝く遠い星のようである。

本作品を特徴づけているもう一つの要素は、自主制作の超低解像度分散型LEDディスプレイシステムである。8K映像が当たり前になった今、あえて画素密度を落とすことで、この作品は私たちをフィジカルな現実における創造性へと立ち返らせようと促している。
